If you're not careful and noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms, where it's nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, and the endless background noise of fluorescent lights.

Backrooms: The Project is an immersive first-person found footage horror adventure game. Explore the different levels of this mysterious liminal dimension known as the Backrooms. With the aid of items you find scattered about the world, you must find a way to escape. Be mindful of your surroundings, you are not the only one in this maze.

GAMEPLAY FEATURES

REALISTIC CAMERA MOVEMENT

Camera movement has been designed to capture that true handheld found footage video feel. Each bounce of the camera is synced exactly with the player's footsteps, but at the same time still maintains the player's ability to easily orient and control the character while moving.

BODY AWARENESS

To achieve a truly immersive experience, the player has a visible shadow-casting character model. Nearly all light sources in the game cast high quality soft shadows while still maintaining optimal performance, creating a much more realistic sense of awareness within the environment.

AUTHENTIC RETRO VIDEO

Utilizing techniques such as depth of field, exposure control, and various other post-processing effects, the game achieves an authentic found footage aesthetic by simulating an actual camcorder from the 1980s-1990s.
