About RPG1: Rancid Polluted Globe - Radioactive Plastic Wasteland

RPG1 is a single player post-apocalyptic retro-inspired roguelike party management roleplaying game with lots of other applicable superlatives, set in the not-so-distant future. In the post-corporate apocalypse, the planet is a devastated wasteland of toxic waste, flowing radioactive magma, and horribly disfigured mutant survivors and, of course, yourself, the lone wanderer exploring the life around your relatively undisturbed white farmhouse. The years of milking cow-bees and running from rampant gatorzillas have made you grow restless. You see a future in which you and a band of merry travelers head out on the road... and thus begins your quest to find out what the hell happened before yer pappy was born.

Key features:

  • Turn-Based Combat
  • Single-Player RPG Campaign
  • Low-fidelity graphics (mid-1980s home computer style)
  • Granular control of each party member (up to 8) during combat and inside dungeons
  • Full controller support, or use Keyboard only, optionally, use Mouse
  • Humorous yet dark setting with classically hard gameplay
  • Quality of life improvements over classic games
  • Full color pixel art graphics
  • High definition audio
  • Heavy Metal inspired score
  • Complex character management with 44+ equipment locations

Remember games like Ultima 4 and 5? This specific era of roleplaying game was a hard, roguelike unforgiving game with deep interaction and unique fidelity. Those games used every available resource of the Apple ][ and IBM PC to create compelling experiences, despite not having fancy graphics cards. They also innovated the way we played games, and were the jumping off points for the CRPG genre.

There are a number of these modern throwback games, and Rancid Polluted Globe is one of them. Taking the style and sensibilities of the early days of roleplaying games, and combining modern themes and the brutal world of a post-apocalyptic landscape, RPG seeks to push the envelope in the retrospace.

Originally posted on r/Ultima, on Reddit, this game got early recognition from Ultima players an exciting throwback to the games they enjoyed in their childhood. Inspired by the positive response, Lost Astronaut Studios has sought to continue developing this game but provide a way for the community to latch on and show support for the project here on Steam.
