SoA starts by showing players its colorful and unusual world, slowly including players in the game's story and aiming to drag them into an adventure that will last for hours. The game is taken place in an explorable semi-open world where players follow a linear story.

Shadow of Ancients begins with the everyday life of our character, Aiden, in a magical and fantastical world. Aiden is living his life unaware of the reincarnating Demon within him. As the Demon reincarnates, it unleashes a burst of power that can only be sensed by those who wield their strength. Eager to become an adventurer and hero, Aiden excitedly accepts the people who wants this demon's power and accepts their quest. In this adventure, the player, along with Aiden, will uncover the mysteries of the world, the demon, and secrets of the Kingdom, setting out on a path that will shape the future of the world.
